Late last month, a mother and her son were both arrested on aggravated assault charges in separate but related incidents that took place a few days apart.
According to incident reports from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, around 11 p.m. on May 20, 2025, officers responded to a Highway 32 West address for a welfare check. They had received a call that a female at the residence may have been involved in a domestic violence incident. When they arrived, they spoke to the victim and learned that the suspect, Michael Jackson, 39, of Broxton, was inside the residence. An officer noticed a large knot on the victim’s forehead as well as marks on her neck.
Jackson was the alleged assailant in the domestic incident. However, he also had an active warrant for allegedly fleeing from a Georgia State Patrol trooper on a four-wheeler.
The report states that the victim said that Jackson headbutted her three or four times then choked her. She was able to leave the scene but Jackson went to where she was and brought her back to the house. The report also says that the victim stated she wanted to leave Jackson.
Jackson was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, battery (family violence first offense), and traffic violations related to the alleged fleeing incident.
Several days later, on May 23, 2025, at around 3 p.m., officers responded to the same address, this time in reference to a theft. The complainant, Theresa Chandler, 57, of Broxton, who is Michael Jackson’s mother, had made the call because she said people were at the home attempting to steal items that belonged to Jackson.
The individuals, Chris Burkett and Billy Graham, were in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado that belonged to Burkett, which Chandler allegedly rammed with her vehicle when she arrived at the house. Burkett and Graham stated that they had permission to be on the property and had been asked to get Jackson’s motorcycle and take it to a different location. An officer called the individual who gave them permission – the victim from the Jackson domestic incident – and she verified their story.
In the report, Chandler stated that she did not intend to hit Burkett’s vehicle. She said that she hit the brakes and skidded to avoid the collision, according to the report. Officers looked around the accident site and there were no signs of braking or skidding.
Chandler was charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and cruelty to children in the 3rd degree. She was transported to the Coffee County Jail.
