It didn’t take current Brewton Parker Baron and former CCA Patriot Jonathan Rutland long to make an impact. Rutland made his first collegiate start today against the Keiser University Seahawks in West Palm Beach, Florida, and led the Barons to their first win of the season.
The Seahawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning. After that, Rutland settled down and didn’t allow another run for the rest of his outing. In the top of the fourth, the Barons scored one then added five in the fifth and four in the sixth to take a 10-2 lead and ultimately win in eight innings.
Rutland went 6 2/3 innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked four for his first win. Vincent VerPault followed Rutland and kept Keiser off the board for the remainder of the game.
For Brewton Parker, Michael Son was 3-4 with a double, three RBI, and a run scored. Jack Morris went 2-5 with an RBI and two runs.
The Barons are finishing a double-header against the Seahawks. On Thursday, February 5, 2026, they begin a four-game series against St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida. Brewton Parker’s first home game is February 10, 2026, against Reinhardt University. Game time is 3 p.m.
