A 35-year-old was arrested after he led Douglas police officers and Coffee County deputies on a chase to through the city when he allegedly fled from a traffic stop.
According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, just after 10:30 p.m. on May 8, 2026, a DPD officer was headed to City Hall in reference to an alarm call when a silver 2012 Audi A4 ran the red light at the intersection of South Madison Avenue and East Bryan Street, nearly causing the officer to wreck, according to the report. The officer stopped the Audi and spoke with the driver, identified as Willie Lee Huff, 35, of Dacula.
Huff’s driver’s license came back as suspended. He also had active warrants through four different agencies. The officer asked Huff to get out of the vehicle, the report says. Huff replied that he wasn’t going to jail then he drove off from the scene, according to the report.
When Huff drove off, the officer contacted 911, which alerted other units, including deputies. Huff crashed his vehicle, tearing off the front bumper, before parking at the home of a friend on Sellers Street. Huff then ran into a wooded area. A K-9 unit eventually found Huff laying in the woods near Jackson Street.
Huff was arrested and placed in handcuffs. Officers detected the smell of alcohol on Huff’s breath and found alcoholic beverages in the vehicle, the report says. Officers wrote Huff 18 tickets, most of which were traffic violations related to his alleged attempt to flee law enforcement. Among his charges were leaving the scene of an accident and DUI. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail.
