A 20-year-old was arrested on multiple charges after he allegedly fired a gun down Montgomery Avenue earlier this month.
A Douglas Police Department report describing the incident states that just before 2 p.m. on June 1, 2026, an officer responded to a shots fired call on Montgomery Avenue. When he arrived, he spoke with the complainant who said that an individual identified as Jerrod Cooper, 20, of Douglas, had been at her house with a handgun.
Cooper allegedly fired multiple shots with the gun pointed southbound down Montgomery Avenue. After firing the weapon, the report says that Jerrod got into a 2013 Dodge Durango and left the scene. He was not driving; another male was, the report says.
The report also states that Jerrod allegedly sent text messages to another individual threatening the complainant’s husband.
E-911 issued a BOLO for the Durango. It was reported as being seen at Amberwood Apartments a few minutes after the shots were fired. When officers arrived on the scene, it had left. Another officer located the Durango a short distance away. Inside the vehicle, officers found a spent shell casing and a live round.
Cooper was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm near a public highway or street and reckless conduct. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail and later released on a $1,500 bond on each charge.
