A fatal traffic accident that took place at the intersection of Highway 441 South and Perimeter Road last week in Douglas remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
According to an incident report from the GSP, a trooper arrived at the scene just before 10 p.m. on August 27, 2026. The report states that a 2017 Ford Fusion driven by Gracie Ellis, 19, of Pearson, was traveling north on 441 and did not stop at the red light. The vehicle struck a 2014 Infiniti X80 driven by David Lee Simpson, 57, of Douglas. The impact caused the Infiniti to roll over.
Ellis and four occupants of the Infiniti were transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center for treatment. Simpson did not survive the accident.
The accident remains under investigation.
