The CCA Patriots secured the #2 seed for the state playoffs in their regular season finale win against the Westwood Wildcats. CCA defeated Westwood 28-22 in Camilla after trailing 14-12 at halftime.
The two teams matched touchdowns early in the game. The Wildcats got on the board first when Ben Ward broke a 50-yard touchdown run. The two-point attempt was no good. Westwood, however, had a 6-0 lead.
The Patriots answered on their ensuing possession when Dalton Rogers scored on an eight-yard run. After an unsuccessful two-point conversion, the game was tied 6-6 midway through the first quarter.
Rogers scored again a few minutes later to go up 12-6. The Wildcats pulled ahead in the second quarter on another Ward touchdown. He also converted the two-point attempt for a 14-12 Westwood lead that would hold through the half.
In the third period, Rogers found the end zone for the third time on a 55-yard run. He also grabbed the two points to stake a 20-14 CCA lead. Connor Reckley scored the Patriots’ final touchdown in the fourth quarter. CCA made the two-point conversion for a 28-14 lead.
Westwood wasn’t ready to give up, though. Ward scored another touchdown and two-point conversion to make it a one-possession game. That, however, would be the end of the threat and CCA rolled out of Camilla with a 28-22 win.
Rogers rushed for 265 yards on 25 carries and scored three touchdowns. He also caught one pass for 13 yards — the only completion the Patriots had. Reckley ran twice for 40 yards and a score.
Reckley also led CCA with 13 total tackles. Clay Phillips and Bo Roberts each had 11. Phillips had one sack while Roberts and Reckley each had half a sack.
The Patriots finish the regular season with an 8-1 overall record and a 5-1 region mark. The playoffs begin next week and CCA will play at home. Should they win their first-round matchup, they will play at home again in the second round.
