Coffee County Great Promise Partnership (GPP) students joined youth from all over the state of Georgia for Leadership Day at the Capitol on Monday, February 23, in Atlanta.

Leadership Day, sponsored by the Department of Community Affairs (DCA), is an opportunity for leaders from across Georgia to come together, share best practices, and identify ways to improve leadership efforts in Georgia.

The students enjoyed speeches from Secretary of State Brian Kemp, Jamie Jordan of the Georgia Department of Economic Development Workforce Division, and Mike Beatty, President and CEO of Great Promise Partnership.

Youth also had the opportunity to tour Georgia’s Capitol, view state Representatives and Senators in action, and had their photograph taken with Governor Nathan Deal.  Proclamations in both the House and Senate recognized GPP students.

“I am excited that our youth had the opportunity to see our state’s legislative process first hand,” said Linda Cribbs, GPP Coordinator with Coffee High School. “A trip to the state’s capitol can fuel responsible citizenship and an interest in civic engagement.”

Participants from Coffee County included Kodey Johnson, Destiny Pittman, Alexis Pittman, Meagan Pittman, Logan Smith, Cody Hayes and Levi Dees.

The youth were chaperoned by Linda Cribbs, Andrea Taylor with the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce and Lee Taylor with Zaxby’s.

To learn more about the exciting opportunities offered through Great Promise Partnership, please contact Linda Cribbs at Coffee High School.
