Get those shoulder pads and other 1980s fashion fads out for the upcoming Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce Women in Business: Back to the ‘80s event on Thursday, April 9, from 6-8 p.m. at The Atrium Event Center.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in their favorite ‘80s style fashion fads, but dressing the part is not necessary to attend.  The networking event will feature a panel of local women in business.  Prizes will be given for the top three costumes.

In the 1980s the number of women in management positions in the U.S. more than doubled. Women showed the world that they could be just as successful and smart as any man in business. The event’s panel of speakers includes Kim Clayton, Annie Farrar and Tracy McClelland.  These local women in business will explore the fact that women leaders in business have a constant pull between family and business and how others can learn to deal with it more gracefully.

Kim Clayton has served as the Director of Personnel and Public Relations for the Coffee County School System since 1993. In her “first life,” Kim worked in retail management and buying in Raleigh, NC and St. Petersburg, FL. After she moved to Douglas in 1984, Kim served as Manager for J.L Smith, a women’s boutique in downtown. Her job responsibilities now include all areas of human resources and she also represents the system in the public relations arena through local and state media. Kim holds a Bachelor of Arts in marketing and management from Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, VA.

Annie Farrar retired in 2005 from Coffee Regional Medical Center, where she started the Social Work Department after she came to work there in 1982. She graduated from Auburn University 1971 with a BS in psychology/sociology.  Annie was elected to the Coffee County Board of Education in 1990 and currently serves as a member of the CRMC Board of Directors.

Tracy McClelland is a Registered Nurse by Trade who loves helping others grow through education. She is the owner and CEO of Ycarte’ Health Career Center of Douglas and the President and Founder of the National HTC Nursing Entrepreneur Association.  She is an alumnus of South Georgia State College where she received her ADN in Nursing Science. She then received her Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from Valdosta State University and her PhD from The University of California in Healthcare Management & Leadership.

The event will take place on Thursday, April 9, from 6-8 p.m. at The Atrium Event Center.  Tickets are $20 for Chamber members and employees of Chamber members and $25 for non-Chamber members.  Ticket price includes A Taste of Coffee – sample delectable delights from Chamber member restaurants and caterers, as well as two drink tickets per person.

Reserved tables of 6 or 8 available.  Register and pay online at www.douglasga.org or contact the Chamber at 912.384.1873.
