The Boys and Girls Club of Coffee County visited the World War II Flight Training Museum on Thursday as a part of their Spring Break field trip schedule. The group was greeted by a World War II-era Women Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) re-enactor and then marched into the two-room museum, which is housed in an original cadet barracks.

After learning about cadet life on the base and during battle in World War II, the group marched past the historical buildings and over to the restoration hangars where everyone got a peek into a B-17 and plane restoration. The students asked many great inquisitive questions and it’s very possible there were some aspiring historians or pilots in the group.  Following the museum and hangar tour, the group headed to the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant for lunch to top off their “high flying” field trip.

The Boys and Girls Club has been embarking on a daily field trip during their Spring Break week. On Monday, the group went to General Coffee State Park for a program and picnic. Tuesday, they went to the library and gym and, on Wednesday, they went to the Broxton Rocks Nature Preserve for a tour, egg hunt, and picnic lunch. The World War II Flight Training Museum thanks the Boys and Girls Club for making it a part of their Spring Break field trip schedule.

The World War II Flight Training Museum is open Thursday- Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m and is now offering field trips and educational resources for teachers. To learn more about the education offerings, including scheduling field trips, visit the museum website at wwiiflighttraining.org and click on the ‘For Schools’ tab.
