If all goes according to plan and the weather cooperates, the students at Satilla Elementary will have impressive bragging rights after Friday. The school will host a hopscotch tournament to compete for a title in the Guiness Book of World Records.
Lee Mobley, principal at Satilla, is looking forward to the students accomplishing this feat. Mobley feels that the sense of accomplishment gained from this achievement will carry over into other aspects of their lives.
He says, “It’s important they feel like winners and they know they can accomplish something this important. This feeling can have an impact on their academic lives, as well. They have been working hard and training hard and I believe in them.”
Mobley is not alone in his confidence and faith in the students: several community leaders will support Satilla Elementary tomorrow before the big event including Douglas Mayor James Dennis and Coffee County Schools Superintendent Morris Leis .
After words of encouragement and opening ceremonies at 11 a.m., the official hopscotch game will begin at noon.
