On September 15, 2024 at about 1:30 a.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 2009 Jeep Liberty that didn’t have headlights on. The incident went from a simple traffic stop to a drug investigation rather quickly and landed the driver, identified as Clinton Dakota Godfrey, 33, of Douglas, in jail on illegal drug charges. A 47-year-old Douglas man remains in the Coffee County Jail after he allegedly tried to hold his mother in her apartment against her will while he was high on drugs. The alleged incident took place on August 28, 2024, just before 3:00 p.m. According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, the victim, a 77-year-old female, lived in an apartment on Lupo Lane in Douglas. Few positive things happen after midnight. That rang true again on August 31, 2024, when E911 received a call around 2:30 a.m. in reference to a possible assault in progress.
