A 44-year-old Douglas man allegedly called 911 repeatedly and cussed out the operators because he wanted to go to jail, according to a report from the Douglas Police Department. The report states that around 11:15 p.m. on March 1, 2025, an officer responded to a North Pearl Avenue address in reference to a man calling 911 and cussing out the operators. Pearson Mayor Robert “Buster” Johnson, who was arrested by agents from the GBI on February 6, 2025, on a variety of felony charges, has been granted a $75,000 bond. The bond was granted on March 6, 2025. There are several conditions of the bond, most of which are standard. Citizens Christian Academy athletic director and head baseball/softball coach Jeremy Coram has been named GIAA Class A Athletic Director of the Year by the Georgia Athletic Directors Association. Coach Coram received the award at GADA’s annual conference this weekend. Kaimrhon Bonaventure, 25, formerly of Douglas, is in jail in Maryland on a variety of charges stemming from several incidents, including the alleged sexual assault of a 96-year-old Hyattsville, Md., nursing home resident. Bonaventure was at one time an aspiring rapper who went by the stage name Skud Newbie and experienced a modicum of success several years ago. Around 7:30 p.m. on February 20, 2025, a deputy made a traffic stop on a white Nissan Murano. During the stop, the deputy searched the vehicle and found a quantity of suspected methamphetamine. The driver, identified as James Wesley McDermitt, 30, of Ambrose, was arrested and transported to the Coffee County Jail. According to an incident report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was patrolling in Oak Park when he saw the Murano roll through a stop sign. According to an incident report from the Douglas Police Department, on February 4, 2025, officers received a call regarding a temporary protective order (TPO) violation. NBCUniversal has settled a lawsuit with local OB/GYN Dr. Mahendra Amin after personalities on MSNBC make “verifiably false” statements accusing Dr. Amin of performing unnecessary hysterectomies at the Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla. The accusations were levied against Dr. Amin in 2020. The ICDC was an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Ocilla. In September of 2020, a report from a whistleblower surfaced alleging that Dr. Amin performed unnecessary hysterectomies on women who were detained at the detention center.
