Heavy rain in the Douglas-Coffee County community on Friday, June 19, 2026, caused a wastewater spill into a tributary of the Seventeen Mile River. The City of Douglas Wastewater Treatment Plant reports that the spill occurred into an unnamed tributary of the Seventeen Mile River. The spill date was from Friday at 5:30 p.m. until 10:40 p.m. the same day. The spill occurred at 622 Iron Road in Douglas. Approximately 50,000 gallons are being reported. A pair of Coffee Trojans made the Georgia Dugout Club’s Class 5A All-State team. Junior starting pitcher Gavin McElroy was named Second Team All-State while sophomore infielder Jimmy Timothy made Third Team All-State. McElroy pitched in 14 games, starting 13. He was 5-3 with a 2.36 ERA and 80 strikeouts to 26 walks in 68 1/3 innings. Opponents hit just .219 when he was on the mound. The suspect, identified as Terrell Dewayne Story, 44, of Douglas, remains in the Coffee County Jail. Sam Graves, a multi-sport Yulee (Fla.) High School graduate with ties to Douglas, has graduated as the Hornets’ top javelin athlete. Graves is the son of Will and Ashley Preston Graves of Yulee. His maternal grandparents are Bob and the late Norma Preston of Douglas. Graves competed in several different sports during his four years at Yulee High, including golf, football, and tennis. Deputies arrested a Douglas woman on illegal drug charges after she was arrested because she had an active warrant through the sheriff’s office, according to an incident report. The report says that on May 27, 2026, at 7:38 p.m., a deputy saw Sabrina Faye Evans, 48, of Douglas driving a white F-150.
