The CCA Patriots finished a strong baseball week, going 3-0 and outscoring their opponents 21-6 in the process. Monday, the Patriots defeated Grace Christian Academy 12-2 at home in five innings. Case Snipes had two hits and three RBI. Hunter Hayes had two hits and two RBI. Landon Williams and Jonathan Rutland each scored twice. The Coffee Trojans bounced back from a tough loss against the Greenbrier Wolfpack on Tuesday and managed to split a double-header at Greenbrier on Wednesday. Coffee won game one 6-3 but dropped game two 2-1 in extra innings. The Trojans trailed 1-0 until the top of the third when they scored two to go up 2-1. A trespassing call at Georgian Woods Apartments ended up landing a Hazlehurst man in jail on aggravated stalking and drug possession charges, according to a report from the Douglas Police Department. On February 27, 2024, just before 1 p.m., two police officers arrived at the scene and spoke to the complainant, who stated that she had a temporary restraining order against Garrette Sanders, 58, of Hazlehurst. A traffic stop that resulted from a passenger in a vehicle throwing a wrapper out of the window ended up landing the driver in jail on drug charges. According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, a detective was patrolling in the Rainey Drive/Leary Circle area of Ambrose when he saw a person in a vehicle throw a plastic wrapper out of a vehicle. The detective conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, the passenger, Rickey Burch, admitted to throwing out the wrapper, the incident report states. On February 23, 2024, a Douglas police officer responded to a Hollywood Drive address in reference to a shots fired call. Witnesses at the scene identified Travis Toombs, 48, of Douglas, as the suspect. By the time officers arrived, Toombs had left. Toombs avoided capture for a couple of days but eventually, his luck ran out.
