James Jones, 49, of Atlanta, the suspect whom Coffee County deputies shot multiple times last week as he allegedly ran over another deputy while attempting to buy a cargo trailer fraudulently on November 1, is finally in the Coffee County Jail. Jones has been a hospital recovering from the deputies’ bullets. He has apparently responded well enough enough from his injuries to be taken to jail. He was booked into the facility Sunday around 8 p.m. His alleged accomplice, Dexter Bowen, 53, also of Atlanta, has been in jail since the incident took place Wednesday afternoon. …

A suspect in a cargo trailer theft ring was shot by a deputy Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly attempted to run over another deputy while they were trying to arrest him. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at a local cargo trailer lot on the east side of Douglas. The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement: “The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office was conducting an investigation involving theft of cargo trailers. During this investigation, suspects attempted to use deadly force against deputies. Kentavius Street is coming home. Kind of. Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles traded the Douglas native and North Carolina State graduate to the Atlanta Falcons for a 2024 sixth round draft pick. On October 18, 2023, deputies arrested Carlos Omar Ochoa, 41, of Douglas, on aggravated assault charges after he allegedly entered his wife’s home and cut a man in the face who was in bed asleep with his wife. Earlier this month, the Georgia High School Association ruled that Cook County had allowed an ineligible player, Jarvis Kyree Fuller, to play. A Broxton man was arrested earlier this month for allegedly falsely reporting that people were attempting to breaking to his home on Sam Jones Road. According to an incident report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, around 6 p.m. on October 16, 2023, Jaeger Paulk, 36, reported that several individuals were attempting to break into his home.
