A Douglas police officer arrested a 56-year-old Douglas man on drug charges following an incident that began at the Circle K on East Baker Highway. The officer reported that he was sitting at the old gas station adjacent to the Circle K around 1 a.m. on May 2, 2023. While he was there, he noticed a white 1992 Jeep Cherokee at one of the gas pumps at the Circle K. Timothy McClelland, 56, was standing at the pumps talking with several people. The incident report states that McClelland kept looking at the officer across the street. …

Former Coffee High School head football coach Ken Eldridge is returning to the head coaching ranks. Coach Eldridge, who last served as a head coach in 2015 at Swainsboro High, has been named the head football coach of the Berrien County Rebels. Eldridge takes over for Tim Alligood, who led the Rebels to a 7-5 mark last season and the school’s first playoff win in 31 years. The long arm of the law extends quite a distance. And sometimes those arms are working the same investigation in two different places. Four suspected drug dealers from Coffee County found that out late last week. Several individuals suspected of being involved in a Douglas area drug dealing operation were recently jailed in Houston County as the Coffee County Drug Unit (CCDU) was conducting its own local investigation. CCDU authorities obtained information that the suspects had sold crack cocaine from a garage adjacent to a Douglas residence and subsequently applied for a search warrant of the area. …

An Atkinson County sheriff’s deputy has been suspended for two weeks following an investigation that Atkinson County Sheriff David Moore launched after allegations surfaced that the deputy allowed a possible drunk driver go free because the driver exposed herself to him during a traffic stop. Monday, Sheriff Moore announced on his Facebook page that he was opening an investigation into the allegations. The allegations surfaced after the driver posted a Snapchat video stating that is what happened. Friday afternoon, Sheriff Moore released a lengthy statement, also to his Facebook page, announcing the conclusion of the investigation.…
