The City of Douglas has been notified that the Red Cross has begun taking applications for immediate assistance for families who suffered “major or destroyed” home damages from Hurricane Idalia. Households who experienced damages from the storm will have requirements to qualify. To be eligible for the program, households must meet these requirements: Your pre-disaster primary residence (renter or homeowner) is in a confirmed disaster-impacted geographic area in Florida or Georgia and is either destroyed or has sustained significant structural damage that requires extensive repairs, or the damage is so severe that repairs are not feasible. District Attorney Marilyn Bennett announces the recent outcomes of several cases her offices has tried in the Waycross Judicial Circuit which covers Bacon, Brantley, Charlton, Coffee, Pierce, and Ware Counties: Mason Concepcion, 30, of Alma, was convicted by a Bacon County jury for Aggravated Child Molestation which stemmed from 2021 allegations involving a child victim over the age of 10. Ruth Butts Floyd, a 96-year-old resident of Valdosta, peacefully passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. She was born in Douglas, GA, on January 28, 1927, to the late Thomas Jefferson Butts and Charity Davis Butts.
