One could describe Wiregrass Georgia Technical College’s Mechatronic student Brandon Howell as a modern-day renaissance man. Before Brandon graduated from high school he began his college career with Wiregrass’s Dual Enrollment program. Since then he has received an Associates of Applied Science Degree and a Diploma in Commercial Electrical Construction. He has also earned technical certificates of credit in Basic Electricity Technician, Electrical Maintenance Technology, Industrial Electrical Assistant, Industrial Electrician, and Industrial Motor Control Tech. South Georgia State College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Cory Baldwin has been selected by the National Junior College Athletic Association as the Southeast District Coach of the Year for the 2022-2023 season. This is the third time Baldwin has received the NJCAA honor. Coffee High junior Range Robinson, who is in Durres, Albania, representing the United States at the 2023 International Weightlifting Federation World Championships, takes to the platform Wednesday, March 29, at 3:30 a.m. If you would like to get up early Wednesday morning and watch Robinson lift, the event will be live streamed via USA Weightlifting’s web site, www.teamusa.org. Robinson, 16, won USA Weightlifting national championships in 2019, 2020, and 2021. He is currently ranked 10th in the IWF world rankings. In addition to weightlifting, Robinson plays football and runs track for the Trojans.

The City of Douglas became a Golf Cart Community in 2018. Motorized carts are allowed on Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) approved areas throughout Douglas. Anyone driving a motorized cart should know the general guidelines to operate a motorized cart in those areas. Michael and Kassidy Carter of Bay Carter Farms in Broxton were selected as one of the 10 finalists to attend and present information about their farming operation and management practices at the National Outstanding Young Farmers (NOYF) Award Congress in Appleton, Wisconsin on Feb. 16-19, 2023. Students receiving Distinguished Honor status are those who have completed 45 or more academic semester hours at ABAC with an overall grade point average of 3.75 or higher.
