The Coffee Trojans’ men’s and women’s track teams defeated Bacon County, Berrien County and Lanier County at the first home meet of the season last Tuesday. The track meet produced Elite Performances according to Georgia Milesplit.com. A few standout results are as follows: Anthony Paulk competed in the 100 meters with a hand-held time of 10.88 seconds for a first place finish. Led by GCAA Player of the Year Carlos Hart, the No. 2 seed Hawks defeated the top seed Georgia Highlands Chargers 76-72 Saturday afternoon to capture their second GCAA Tournament Championship in three years. Saturday’s win avenges SGSC’s two regular season losses to Georgia Highlands. The Chargers escaped Waycross with an 85-83 overtime win Jan. 25 and defeated the Hawks 69-65 Feb. 23 in Rome. At the Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council (DMYC) meeting in February, the council recognized Angela Joiner as the outstanding community leader for the month. The special guest speaker was Coffee High School’s head football coach Mike Coe. The Youth Council Jr. Commissioner Brody Grantham was recognized for this month’s Youth Council spotlight. Brody is the son of Samuel and Camilla Grantham. He is in the 9th grade at George Washington Carver Freshman Campus, where he is on track to graduate with Honors. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College President DeAnnia Clements is excited to share that the college’s enrollment has increased 6.8% this Spring 2023 Semester compared to Spring 2022 Semester. This marks the fourth straight semester the college has seen an increase in enrollment compared to the previous year. Fall 2022 Semester’s enrollment increased 12% compared to Fall 2021 Semester. “We are excited to see these increases and are preparing now for continued increase in the number of students,” shared President Clements. “We are consistently looking to see what other programs we can extend to other campuses to meet the demand.” …
