Silo Keith is Wiregrass Tech’s first female welder to compete at the state SkillsUSA competition and earn a medal. She was one of the 47 Wiregrass students who competed in the state-wide competition in Atlanta where she earned a bronze medal in Welding. Silo refers to this accomplishment as a “happy accident.” “My welding instructor Wally Rewis recognized my talent and explained to me what the SkillsUSA competition was, and then told me, ‘You are going,’” says Silo, laughing. On March 4, 2023, 16 schools from Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina converged on Coffee Middle School for the JROTC annual drill competition. The Coffee High School NJROTC hosted the competition and was responsible for feeding all participants. Post and Unit 515 took the responsibility for providing food and feeding over 100 judges, instructors, bus drivers and 750 cadets. Post 515 member Mike Bazzell supervised the preparation and serving of meals for the cadets competing in the drill composition and Post 515 member Carissa McKinzie served as a judge.
