Agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and officers from the Jeff Davis County Criminal Investigation Unit have made an arrest in connection to the March 10, 2025, shooting death of Gary Ryals Jr. On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, Ronald Dykes was arrested and charged with voluntary manslaughter in Ryals’s death. Ryals was shot and killed during an altercation that took place on March 10 at the Circle K in Hazlehurst. Dykes and one other individual were detained but later released. Early Sunday morning, a chase through Pearson took place involving an individual who was allegedly attempting to smuggle contraband into Ware State Prison. The suspect, identified as Taquez Moore, 44, led officers on a chase that ultimately ended in Tifton.
