Four Wiregrass Georgia Technical College students have been selected as the college’s semi-finalists for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL), according to Lydia Hubert, coordinator for the Wiregrass GOAL program. Chosen as semifinalists are: James Grobsmith (Barbering) Ware County, Nikki Hinson (Radiologic Technology) Lowndes County, Chris Rampley (Radiologic Technology) Lowndes County, and Joshua Velasquez (Air Conditioning) from Lowndes County. James Grobsmith chose the Barbering program to make a difference in how both men and women feel about themselves and looks forward to opening his own barber shop after graduation. First graders presented Indian Creek’s annual Veterans Day program on Wednesday, November 7 in honor of all of the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. This year students were also wowed by the presentations of the NJROTC from Coffee High School. South Georgia State College (SGSC) and the University of North Georgia (UNG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which will provide the students at SGSC the opportunity to obtain a dual certification degree in elementary education and special education. Students attending SGSC will be able to complete the four-year UNG Special Education General Curriculum Elementary Education program (P-5) and qualify for teacher certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) has named South Georgia State College’s (SGSC) Skyler Baggs as the first Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the 2018-2019 season. Baggs, a 6’5” redshirt sophomore from Brunswick, averaged 21 points, 9.5 rebounds, four steals, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks in the Hawks’ (2-0) opening wins over American Basketball Institute (93-64) and Florida State College at Jacksonville (79-75, OT).
