Detectives from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Unit have arrested Booker T. Rhem, a convicted sex offender absconded from the state of Michigan, after discovering he had been living in Coffee County without properly registering as required by Georgia law. Detectives received information indicating that Rhem, who was previously listed as absconded from Michigan, had recently relocated to Coffee County and was residing at a residence in Douglas. On October 4, 2025, at 3:45 p.m., Valdosta police officers, Valdosta firefighters, and South Georgia Medical Center Emergency Medical Services responded to a residence in the 3800 block of Pecan Drive for a two-year-old child who had been attacked by dogs. When first responders arrived at the house, they found that the child was deceased. Valdosta Police Department detectives and Crime Scene personnel arrived and began the investigation.
