The Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society chapters of South Georgia State College were represented at the Georgia Regional Spring Conference at Georgia Highlands College in Cartersville by advisors Amy Hancock and Ame Wilkerson and chapter officer Mark Freeman. SGSC’s chapter on the Douglas Campus, which includes entry program, online, and Move On When Ready students, is Kappa Sigma and the chapter on the Waycross Campus is Alpha Rho Omega. Coffee County drug investigators have arrested a 28-year-old Douglas man on distribution charges after he was caught selling ecstasy in a local restaurant parking lot. Detectives with the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit received an anonymous tip that a possible drug transaction was taking place in the Burger King parking lot on the north end of Douglas. Detectives arrived at the scene and, after several minutes of surveillance, observed a black vehicle driven by Irwin Wright pull into the parking lot. Stevie Young, Director of the Douglas-Coffee County Parks and Recreation Department, was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting of Tuesday the 21st of March at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. He spoke about the Miracle League which works to remove the barriers that keep children with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field and allows them to experience playing as part of a team. He also covered in depth the proposal to build a Miracle Field at Davis Wade Park. The Kiwanis club members enjoyed and appreciated his presentation.

A man wanted since February on domestic violence charges for striking his pregnant girlfriend and other offenses is behind bars at the Coffee County Jail. Cameron Blake Adams, 28, had evaded law enforcement since a Feb. 14 incident in which he is accused of striking the 23-year-old victim with a closed fist and shoving her to the ground, causing visible injuries. Adams fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement, and warrants were obtained for simple battery and disorderly conduct. Coffee County deputies have arrested a 24-year-old female on animal cruelty charges after she abandoned several domesticated animals in a mobile home without food nearly a month ago. Deputies responded to a residence on Sand Street and met with the complainant who stated the offender had vacated the home at the beginning of March. She added the electricity had been turned off since that time and the offender had left several animals behind, including one dog that was found dead inside the home.
