It took another late first half scoring run to break the game open and give the South Georgia State College Hawks their fourth straight win Monday night, defeating the Faith Baptist Crusaders 101-80. Leading 27-23 with 6:00 remaining in the first half, the Hawks (11-2) outscored the Crusaders 25-9 to take a 20-point halftime lead and grew their lead to as many as 24 points in the second half. The yearly bowling party for the youth of the Hahira Sheriffs’ Youth Home was held Sunday, December 18, at the Rockin’ Roll Bowlin’ center in Douglas. Forty youth and adults from the home enjoyed the event, which was sponsored by the Douglas Kiwanis Club. Donations from the Kiwanis Club, the Citizens Christian Academy Key Club, and Sheriff Doyle Wooten provided Christmas gift cards. Free bowling was provided by Rockin’ Roll Bowlin’, and a meal was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. A number of personnel from the Kiwanis Club helped with the event and provided dessert. Geraldine Cauley Hill Veal, age 82, of Ambrose, GA passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at her residence following an extended illness.
