94-year-old Carl Bishop, the oldest member of the Douglas Kiwanis Club, assisted recently during the Kiwanis Pizza Night fundraiser at Hungry Howie’s. Mr. Bishop has been a Kiwanian for more than 50 years and has been with the local club for 44 years. Those members present were very glad to have him participate and and they are thankful for his many years of faithful service. – Submitted

Mr. Andrew Jacobs of the Jacksonville Zoo visited Satilla Regional Library in Douglas and Pearson Wednesday. He presented a zoo show with a reptile, mammal, and amphibian including a salamander, Florida box turtle, and short-tailed opposom. Mr. Jacobs also explained each animal and gave interesting talks about each one. He walked around and everyone had the opportunity to see the animals, with the option of petting the Florida box turtle. He answered many questions from the audience, and everyone had a great time! There is a fantastic new program being offered in Coffee County called Food Talk. This program was created by the University of Georgia Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (UGA SNAP-Ed.) and classes are taught by your Coffee County Extension Office. Food Talk offers six lessons that cover topics like how to make healthy choices when dining out; adapt traditional Southern recipes to reduce sodium and increase vegetable servings; and how to plan meals and shopping trips to save money. The Douglas Lions Club recently presented a generous donation to the Coffee County 4-H Shotgun Team in order to help finance their trip to the National 4-H Shotgun Match.
