Ken Suttles and the Coffee Middle School Art Club made this Trojan mascot as a school project for 2016. The painting was done by the 8th grade club members. A “Name the Trojan” contest was held, and the Trojan mascot has been named Troy. He is an amazing addition to the Coffee Middle School campus! – Submitted
Wes Abler was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday, May 17 at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. Mr. Abler gave a presentation on his last trip to Alaska in the summer of 2015 during which his group, led by Vicki and Frank Pridemore, traveled from Anchorage to Prudhoe Bay and back down to Valdez. During the spring 2016 semester, 653 South Georgia State College students earned honors for exemplary academic achievement, according to Dr. Robert Page, vice president for academic affairs. A total of 180 students earned a spot on the President’s List, 226 on the Dean’s List, and 247 on the Academic Honors List. Colleen Hester, age 63, of Murrayville, GA passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at her residence following an extended illness. The South Georgia State College Hawks baseball team finished regular season play on a strong note with three wins and one loss against ABAC, which positioned the team to enter postseason play ranked second in Region 17.
