Evelyn Louise Youngblood, age 74, of Alma, GA passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Youngblood was born on March 10, 1942, in Douglas, GA to the late Carlos Youngblood and Earnie Dean Thomas Youngblood. Survivors include: her two daughters, Karen Johnson of Nicholls, GA and Calisse (Jimmy) Owens of Maryville, TN; son, Franklin Courson of Nicholls, GA; sister, Gelene Johnson of Richland, GA; brother, Carlos Lee Youngblood, Jr. of Nicholls, GA; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Each year, the Coffee County School System participates in the Young Author’s Writing Competition. Schools submit winners for each grade level, and the overall winners are chosen for the school district. This year, two of those overall winners were from Indian Creek Elementary School. Abbie Hill, in Mrs. Tammy Bennett’s class, wrote the winning piece for first grade entitled, “The Dream.” Georgia Hamlin, in Mrs. Peggy Luke’s class, composed the winning entry for fourth grade entitled “Long Wait.” Congratulations to both of these students and their teachers for their hard work. The COMPASS test will be given at 8:30 a.m. in the 8th grade computer lab on Thursday, April 28 for 8th grade students who will be applying to Wiregrass College to take college classes during 9th grade or those who have applied to the Career Academy for 9th grade. Students must sign up with Mrs. Pruitt, and the limit is 25. There is no cost or picture ID required. Students can also take this test next year at the Freshman Campus, Career Academy, or Wiregrass College. – Submitted
