Raymond Carver, age 64, of Douglas, GA passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA following an extended illness. Mr. Carver was born on March 23, 1951, in Coffee County, GA to the late Chester Carver and Aline Story Carver. Survivors include: his wife, Angela L. Carver of Douglas, GA; son, Michael (Tara) Carver of Douglas, GA; daughter, Ellie Carver of Douglas, GA; and several nieces and nephews. Wiregrass has been honoring the area teachers, students and administrators the month of February because of its designation as National Career Technical and Agriculture Education (CTAE) month. In celebration of Black History Month, Heritage Station Museum has a special exhibit showcasing local black history memorabilia presented by Yvonne Clay. The exhibit will be on display until April 9, 2016. Heritage Station Museum is located at 219 W. Ward Street and is open to the public on Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Heritage Station Museum features a variety of permanent exhibits commemorating local history. Chamber of Commerce PresidentAndrea Taylor was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. Andrea spoke about the mission and goals of the Douglas-Coffee Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Authority and gave a presentation on the economic development projects completed in the last several years and future development projects. South Georgia State College’s (SGSC) baseball team defeated Thomas University (JV) 10-0 in seven innings on Feb. 18. Jalen Jackson racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Hawks (5-7). He singled in the first inning and homered in the fifth inning. Tanner Wright kept Thomas University (JV) off the scoreboard for all seven innings he was on the mound. He allowed no opposing players to cross the plate on five hits while ringing up five.
