Oren Edgar Lee, Sr, age 83, of Douglas, GA passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Lee was born on November 19, 1931, in Douglas, GA to the late Oliver Lee and Olie Ruth Spivey Lee. Mr. Lee was a veteran of Korean War and Vietnam Conflict having served in the US Air Force. He retired from the Air Force after serving 21 years. Wiregrass Georgia Tech students recently attended the 51th Annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference held in Louisville, KY on June 22 through 26. Industry leaders representing more than 600 businesses, corporations, trade associations and unions recognized the students for demonstrating excellence in 100 hands-on occupational and leadership competitions such as robotics, criminal justice, aviation maintenance and public speaking. The State of Georgia has enacted a new fireworks law, HB 110, just in time for the 4th of July celebrations. The City of Douglas fire and police departments would like to encourage citizens to practice safety with fireworks and would like to make the public aware of a few facts about this new law. The new state law allows for consumer fireworks to be sold statewide in Georgia. Georgia’s Safety Fire Commissioner will issue a state license to sell fireworks after the applicant meets specific insurance and criminal background requirements and pays the state license fee.
