During the Fall 2014 semester, 592 South Georgia State College students earned honors for exemplary academic achievement, according to Dr. Robert Page, Vice President for Academic Affairs. A total of 137 students earned a spot on the President’s List, 227 on the Dean’s List, and 228 on the Academic Honors List. Governor Nathan Deal signed House Bill 91 into law on March 30, thereby creating new code section, O.C.G.A. §20-2-281.1. This law provided that students shall no longer be required to earn a passing score on any graduation tests to earn a high school diploma. After a short closure, Roundtree Park is being reopened by the City of Douglas. City of Douglas staff have repaired and made upgrades to amenities located in the park, which should make it more accessible and safe for citizens to enjoy. “Our priority is making our citizens feel safe while enjoying the park,” says City Manager Terrell Jacbos. “Repairs were made to correct some safety violations and concerns expressed by the community. In remembrance of our fallen soldiers on Memorial Day, sixth graders at Coffee Middle School wrote friendly letters to men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces. Last week, a uniformed soldier delivered a package of letters to Mrs. Adams’ English Language Arts students, and every letter had been answered. The students couldn’t believe a real-life soldier wrote to them about their military experiences: “amazing, thoughtful, awesome,” and even a few tears, were some of the students’ reactions.
