The City of Douglas has received a 2015 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $325,176 from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA), which will be utilized to improve aging and dilapidated sanitary sewer lines and alleviate problems associated with inadequate water service and fire protection. The Douglas Police Department’s first Citizen Police Academy is proving to be beneficial to participants as well as officers. The program began in August and will continue on Thursday nights until graduation on October 3. “The Citizen Police Academy is going great,” says Chief Gary Casteloes. “Participants are inquisitive and have offered very helpful feedback.” Since the class began, 15 participants have received instruction covering the CCSO/ Douglas Police Department Drug Task Force, patrol operations, community-oriented policing, criminal investigative unit, search and seizure, crime scene processing, and use of force.
