West Green Elementary School is proud to recognize the students who were the TRIBE Kids for the months of January and February. The January TRIBE Kids demonstrated the character trait of fairness, while the February TRIBE Kids demonstrated the character trait of honesty. These students were rewarded with a certificate and a t-shirt. The No. 18 South Georgia State College Hawks (25-4, 14-3) will host a GCAA Conference Tournament quarterfinal game Tuesday, March 3 with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. General admission will be five dollars with children five and under admitted free. No SGSC basketball regular season passes will be accepted. As the tournament’s top seed, the Hawks will play the No. 8 seed in the quarterfinals. The opponent has not yet been determined because the GCAA’s regular season has not ended. Westside hosted “Family Writing Night: Super Powered Writers” on February 19. Those in attendance enjoyed songs performed by second grade super writers, learned about the writing components of the Georgia Milestones (new state assessment), and had the pleasure of meeting a real writing super hero, Captain Penmanship (AKA First Grade Teacher, Trent Bennett). In addition, fifth grade students were presented with their published books they created under the guidance of fifth grade teacher, Ms. April Dockery. Congratulations to Westside third grader Noah Cliett for winning an iPod during a celebration assembly that was held January 23. Noah’s name, along with those of all students who had perfect attendance during the second grading period, was placed in a drawing, and he was the lucky winner. Special thanks to Wendy’s Restaurant for donating the iPod awarded to Noah.
