Aubrey McKinnon, age 90, of West Green, GA passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. McKinnon was born on August 15, 1924, in Douglas, GA to the late Jesse Brian McKinnon and Fannie Melvin McKinnon. Mr. McKinnon was a avid farmer in West Green, GA. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Douglas and Burkett Baptist Church. A Coffee County jury returned guilty verdicts this week against D’Andre Carter, one of three individuals charged with the 2013 murder of Dequavious Reed. Reed was 21-years-old when he was shot twice in the chest at his residence in the City of Douglas on July 11, 2013. The case was cracked open when one witness agreed to speak with Carter while wearing a recording device and obtained full details from him as to how the murder took place. Registration for the 2015-16 school year is ongoing at First Academy for one-year-olds through sixth grade. Some classes have filled with waiting lists, but there are still openings in most classes.
