Cadwin O’Steen, age 90, of Alma, GA passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Bacon County Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. O’Steen was born on February 22, 1924, in Broxton, GA to the late Leonard Monroe Mobley and Hortense Wilcox Mobley. The Pre-K classes from West Green Elementary took a trip to Greenetree Farms to choose and cut Christmas trees for their classrooms. They enjoyed touching, smelling, and looking at the trees. The children especially liked watching their trees being shaken to release old needles. Afterward, they went to Wheeler Park to play and picnic! South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team utilized a big second half Tuesday night to win its fourth consecutive game, beating Brewton-Parker College’s junior varsity team, 96-49. Demontrez Austin’s double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds and Jovante’ Spivey’s 13 points, two rebounds, three assists, and three steals helped the Hawks (9-1) remain perfect during their current homestand. The City of Douglas and Coffee County Historical Society invite the public to attend the centennial celebration and ribbon cutting of the Douglas Visitor Information Center, which is also known as the Ashley-Slater House. This historic house on Gaskin Avenue is now home to the Douglas Visitor Information Center, Public Information Department, and Main Street.
