Thanks to a grant by the United States Department of Agriculture, the Satilla Regional Library in Douglas now has a new wireless computer classroom. Beginning computer classes will be offered on the following dates: 10/31 at 1 p.m. – Computer Basics11/7 at 1 p.m. – Internet Basics11/14 at 1 p.m. – Email Basics Class size is limited to 10 and spaces are on a first come, first serve basis. Veterans Day plans have been announced for the campuses of Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. The Wiregrass Student Veterans Associations (SVA) will be hosting these events on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 to honor student, staff, and faculty veterans as well as all veterans in our communities. The Valdosta campus ceremony honoring veterans will be held by the fountain at Lowndes Hall at 8:30 a.m. followed by a breakfast in the Upper Crust. Topics for the class include preschool social studies concepts, 1, 2, 3 There’s a Bug in the Tree, Preschool Math/Science Concepts, and importance of art. The annual Hometown Harvest will take place on Thursday, October 30, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the vacant lot adjacent to city hall, which is located on Madison Avenue. The Douglas Fire Department participated in the 2014 Safety and Wellness Festival and promoted Fire Safety Week, October 5 – 11. Fire department personnel visited several preschools during Fire Prevention Week and spoke to the preschoolers about fire safety and the importance of working smoke alarms.Additionally, an art contest was held, and the winners from Westside Elementary School and their classmates are pictured below.
