The First National Bank Junior Board of Directors (FNBCC JBOD) held its second monthly meeting on Monday, September 8, 2014. Nominations for FNBCC JBOD elections were made by the board for the Chair, Co-Chair and Secretary positions. The Douglas Lions Club is planning its 15th Annual Big Buck Contest this year to be held on Saturday, October 18, at the Coffee High School Gym. On September 8, author and storyteller Carmen Agra Deedy visited West Green Elementary. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade, as well as their teachers, were mesmerized as Mrs. Deedy told them stories based on her life experiences and talked to them about how she gets her ideas for her books. Mrs. Deedy made many of the stories interactive with the children doing motions to act out the story. Mrs. Deedy also included sound effects as she told her stories, which enthralled the children. Everyone had a wonderful time and is looking forward to having Mrs. Deedy return in the future.…
Glynis Ann Rewis, age 48 of Douglas, passed away early Saturday morning, September 13, 2014, at her residence, following an extended illness. She was born May 1, 1966, to Gilford Dyal and Sandra Goinous Dyal. Survivors include her mother, Sandra G. Overstreet of Douglas; four sisters, Teresa Taylor of Perry, Florida, Kim Holland of Jesup, Denise Gaskins and Gina Jordan, both of Douglas; several nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives. Memorial services will follow at a later date. Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
