A shooting that occurred Thursday in Alma is believed to be related to a incident that occurred in February in which at least one man was shot and two individuals are still on the run from the law.

Alma police reported that officers responded to 213 E. 6th St. in reference to a shooting late Thursday night. Officials discovered a vehicle had been shot several times, but stated no evidence of injuries was immediately apparent.

On Monday, Feb. 29, Alma police and the Bacon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a ‘shots fired’ call in the area of E. 14th St. and Miller St.  APD was advised at least one person had been shot; both the victim and shooter(s) were gone upon law enforcement’s arrival.

About 11 p.m., also on the evening of the Feb. 29, APD received another report of ‘shots fired’ on the east side of town.  Officers discovered a vehicle had been riddled with bullets on E. 11th St. near the intersection of Worth Ave, and at least one person had been shot; the victim and shooters were, again, gone upon law enforcement’s arrival.  The vehicle appeared to have nearly (20) bullet holes, possibly more, and the presence of blood; the vehicle was impounded.  Witnesses in the area reported hearing what sounded like automatic gun fire.

Following the shootings, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to process the vehicle for evidence.  GBI agents analyzed the bullet holes to determine the number of guns used and the location of the shooters; APD has evidence which supports at least two shooters.  GBI agents also seized samples of blood to enable the identification of the victim who was gone upon law enforcement arrival.

APD has reason to believe a man identified as Pierre Alston was shot by another man, Travis Smith, during the first shooting.  APD believes the second shooting was a retaliation conducted by, or on behalf of, Alston.  Alston and Smith are wanted for questioning concerning both shootings.  Alston and Smith are considered to be armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information leading to the whereabouts of Alston and Smith are asked to call Bacon County 911.
