A 28-year-old Douglas man was arrested on theft by conversion charges after he allegedly told someone he would fix her PlayStation 5 but did not perform the work.
An incident report from the sheriff’s office states that on Thursday, April 24, 2026, a deputy met with the victim at the sheriff’s office. The victim said that she made a post on Facebook about needing a PlayStation 5 repaired. She ended up corresponding with Shane Lawson Tanner, Jr., 28, of Douglas, who said he could fix the PlayStation but she would need to pay $60 up front, the report says.
She agreed and met Tanner at Walmart. She gave him the game and $60, according to the report. However, Tanner did not fix the game and would not return her messages. She filed a report and told the deputy she wanted to press charges.
On May 14, 2026, officers located Tanner and took him into custody. He was charged with theft by deception and booked into the Coffee County Jail. Tanner was released on a $1,000 property bond.
