Michael Jonathan Jowers, 31, of Douglas, was arrested after he allegedly stole an iPad from Vista Park then was found with methamphetamine on his person.
According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, on January 23, 2026, around 11:30 a.m., a Douglas police officer responded to Vista Park in reference to a theft. The complainant, a Vista Park employee, stated that the previous day, her iPad was stolen from her bag. She reported to work just before 7 p.m. and placed her bag, which contained the iPad, around the 100 Hall. A couple of hours later, the report says, she went to her bag to get the iPad and it wasn’t there. The only person who had been in the area was Jowers, who comes to Vista Park frequently to see his mother.
Surveillance footage showed Jowers leaving Vista Park around 8 p.m. on January 22 with something under his arm. Someone from Vista Park contacted Jowers and asked him if he could bring the iPad back. Jowers replied that he would.
The report says that Jowers showed up shortly after 2 p.m. An officer was waiting on him when he arrived. Jowers had the iPad and handed it over. The officer told Jowers he was being arrested for the theft of the iPad. During the arrest, the officer found an eyeglass case containing suspected methamphetamine. A drug officer arrived and found a second container with suspected methamphetamine in his shorts.
Jowers was told not to come back to Vista Park for two months, according the report. He was also charged with theft by taking and possession of methamphetamine. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail and released on bond — $5,500 for the meth charge and $1,000 for the theft by taking charge.
