Coffee County Pre-K students are fire wise!

During Fire Prevention Safety Week, Douglas/Coffee County Firefighters visited Coffee County Pre-K Students in all elementary schools. The firefighters met the children and taught ways to be fire wise and always safe from fires.  The firefighters reminded the young students in the event of a fire in their home, “Don’t Hide, Go Outside!”.

Students made pledges to be “Fire Wise” and not to play with matches or other fire products.  The firefighters challenged the young students to learn their address in case they ever had to call 911 or were lost.  Coffee County Pre-K teachers encourage all parents/guardians to practice a home fire drill and identify two methods out in the event of a home fire.  A safe meeting place should be identified outside for all to meet.

Coffee County Schools practice fire drills monthly with students and have identified safe meeting spots. Firefighters stressed the importance of every home having a working smoke detector and replacing batteries as needed.

The firefighters were so impressed with the young Pre-K students learning to be fire wise, they presented them with Jr. Firefighter hats and badges. This was a treat for all, as well as meeting the official mascot of the fire departments, SPARKY.

Shown in the photos are students at Eastside Elementary School.

Thank you for the great job firefighters of Coffee County and for helping us learn fire safety and keeping us safe.  We appreciate you!
