Elected officials from Douglas were among hundreds of city officials to attend the Georgia Municipal Association’s annual Conference in Savannah June 23-June 27, 2017. The annual conference provides city officials with an opportunity to learn more about legislation under consideration, attend training sessions, and hear from state leaders.

“GMA’s Annual Conference allows city officials to attend training and networking opportunities with other city and state officials. Attending GMA training sessions helps further my knowledge as a Mayor and enables me to better serve the citizens of Douglas,” said Mayor Tony Paulk.

In addition to the late City Commissioner Johnnie Lee Roper’s induction into GMA’s Hall of Fame, Commissioner Kentaiwon Durham received the prestigious Certificate of Achievement from the Georgia Municipal Training Institute and wowed the attendees with his talented voice as he sang the National Anthem during the opening general session. Wynetta Bolder, Douglas City Clerk and President of Georgia Municipal Clerks and Finance Officers Association (GMCFOA), was sworn in as a GMA Board of Directors member, and also presented the Clerk and Finance Officer of the Year Award. Kristi Morgan, Executive Assistant/Deputy City Clerk for Douglas City Manager’s Office, received the Georgia County Clerks Association and the Georgia Municipal Clerks and Finance Officers Association (GMC/FOA) Georgia Clerk Certification on Sunday, June 25, 2017. To receive a Georgia Clerk Certification, City Clerk’s attend 100 hours of educational and professional development standards required instructional courses. Terrell Jacobs, City Manager and Wynetta Bolder will be serving one year on the GMA Legislative Policy Council.

“As a first time attendee to the GMA Conference, I found the event encourages engagement between elected officials,” says Commissioner Taylor. “I am happy to be a part of municipal government and anxious to attend more opportunities that will benefit me as an elected official.”

Congratulations to all the attendees and city officials who were recognized at this year’s GMA Convention. For more information about GMA and their benefits offered to Georgia cities, please visit their website, http://gmanet.com.
