During the City Commission meeting on Monday, October 9, 2017, Mayor Tony Paulk extended an invitation to Ms. Sharnae Pegues to be the 2017 Festival of Lights Christmas Parade Grand Marshal. Mayor Paulk read, “Our city is very proud of how you have represented yourself and this community, as you were selected as the Boys & Girls Club of the Coffee County Region Youth of the Year, Boys & Girls Club of America Georgia Youth of the Year of the Southeast Region, further qualifying, advancing, and competing for the national title in Washington, D.C. Your compassionate spirit has been an inspiration, touching many lives within, and beyond, this community. As a result of your hard work, a standard has been set, whereby many youth can aspire to become leaders. You are truly a “Star” in our eyes and our entire City Commission salutes you for making our community shine brighter for future leaders. We thank you for being an exemplary young person, who deserves to be celebrated for your excellence in service and academics. Each year the City of Douglas, along with the Douglas-Coffee Chamber of Commerce and Coffee County Commission, selects a Grand Marshal for our Annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade. As the Mayor of Douglas, along with the County and Chamber, we extend an official invitation to you, Ms. Sharnae Pegues, to be our Grand Marshal, leading our 54th Annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade.”

Ms. Pegues graciously accepted and will lead the parade on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 at 6 p.m.
