The South Georgia State College Hawks dropped to 10-8 on the season after stumbling twice against the College of Central Florida Patriots Saturday afternoon in Douglas. The Patriots won game one 13-4 and game two 1-0.

SGSC’s Christian Campbell had two hits and scored a run while Matthew Mebane scored twice and drove in a pair. The Hawks used four pitchers with starter Bradley Wilson doing the lion’s share of the work. He went 3 1/3 innings and gave up five hits and six runs (five earned).

Game two was a bit of a nail biter. Despite committing six errors, the Hawks held the Patriots scoreless until the top of the seventh when the Patriots scored the game’s only run. Starter Brian Crooms stayed on the mound for 6 2/3 innings. He struck out five and gave up the lone run. Reliever Shaun Munoz game in and recorded the last out. The Hawks were unable to answer in the bottom of the seventh and the Patriots slipped out of town with the sweep.

The Hawks are now in third place in the GCAA. However, the conference schedule is still three weeks away. SGSC opens conference play on March 21 at Andrew College.
