Patriots advance to state championship game, Lady Patriots fall in Final Four

The 3rd seeded Lady Patriots faced the 2nd seeded St. George’s Dragons on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Dragons came out firing, scoring 19 in the first quarter, while the Lady Patriots were ice cold. CCA won the second quarter 10-3, chipping away at the big lead and left it 22-10 at half. The girls got within 10 at one point early in the 3rd quarter, but couldn’t keep the momentum going. St. George’s advances to the championship game with a 49-30 win. 

The #1 Patriots faced off with the #5 Thomas Jefferson Jaguars in the final game of the night on Wednesday. CCA came out hot, jumping to a 21-9 lead after the first quarter thanks to an aggressive press. CCA closed it out with a 64-50 win.

Blake Bryant logged another double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Gray McLean and Thomas Gentry had 13 points each, while Jonathan Rutland and Miller Hutchison both had 9 points.

The Patriots take the court one final time this season in the GIAA Class A state championship game against First Preparatory Christian Academy on Friday at 4:30 at Columbus State University. This will be the fourth time that these two teams have played this season. It’s also the Patriot men’s first trip to the state finals since 1998 – the year they won their one and only state title.
