Georgia’s regional commissions see employment and labor force growth in March

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that every regional commission in Georgia experienced growth in employment and labor force rates in March.

“In March, Georgians from every corner of the state stepped up, joining the workforce and filling critical jobs that drive our state’s economy forward,” said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “By working with regional partners across the state, we’re creating a globally competitive workforce — one that’s built to last and ready to lead Georgia into its next phase of prosperity.”

Please see a synopsis of each regional commission below. Coffee and Atkinson counties are in the Southern Georgia Regional Commission:

Atlanta Regional Commission

  • The unemployment rate remained unchanged posting at 3.6% over the month, the rate was 3.3% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 21,108 over the month and down 10,063 over the year, to 2,706,602.
  • The number of employed was up 21,464 over the month and down 16,352 over the year, to 2,609,848.
  • Initial claims were down 249 over the month and up 871 over the year, to 9,771.

Central Savannah River

  • The unemployment rate was down two-tenths to 4.3% over the month, the rate was 4.1% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 1,171 over the month and down 1,924 over the year, to 208,639.
  • The number of employed was up 1,443 over the month and down 2,284 over the year, to 199,582.
  • Initial claims were down 21 over the month and down 58 over the year, to 736.

Coastal Georgia

  • The unemployment rate remained unchanged posting at 3.4% over the month, the rate was 3.2% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 1,129 over the month and down 3,263 over the year, to 355,221.
  • The number of employed was up 1,156 over the month and down 3,907 over the year, to 343,122.
  • Initial claims were down 96 over the month and down 16 over the year, to 836.

Georgia Mountains

  • Theunemployment rate was down one-tenth to 3.3% over the month, the rate was 3.1% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 2,127 over the month and up 64 over the year, to 243,345.
  • The number of employed was up 2,158 over the month and down 497 over the year, to 235,269.
  • Initial claims were down 72 over the month, and down 96 over the year, to 510. 

Heart of Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down one-tenth to 4.0% over the month, the rate was 3.9% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 18 over the month and up 566 over the year, to 117,803.
  • The number of employed was up 158 over the month and up 418 over the year, to 113,141.
  • Initial claims were down 3 over the month, and up 28 over the year, to 455.

Middle Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down one-tenth to 3.8% over the month, the rate was 3.6% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 1,135 over the month and down 119 over the year, to 224,029.
  • The number of employed was up 1,153 over the month and down 645 over the year, to 215,411.
  • Initial claims were down 66 over the month and up 107 over the year, to 756.

Northeast Georgia

  • The unemployment rate remained unchanged posting at 3.5% over the month, the rate was 3.3% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 2,035 over the month and up 838 over the year, to 350,550.
  • The number of employed was up 2,064 over the month and down 38 over the year, to 338,277.
  • Initial claims were down 10 over the month and up 195 over the year, to 958.

Northwest Georgia

  • The unemployment rate remained unchanged posting at 3.5% over the month, the rate was 3.3% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 2,672 over the month and down 1,097 over the year, to 455,942.
  • The number of employed was up 2,815 over the month and down 2,113 over the year, to 440,054.
  • Initial claims were down 511 over the month and down 112 over the year, to 1,705.

River Valley

  • The unemployment rate was down one-tenth to 4.3% over the month, the rate was 4.0% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 757 over the month and down 2,385 over the year, to 144,735.
  • The number of employed was up 765 over the month and down 2,829 over the year, to 138,461.
  • Initial claims were down 11 over the month and up 8 over the year, to 552.

Southern Georgia

  • The unemployment rate remained unchanged posting at 3.9% over the month, the rate was 3.7% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 283 over the month and down 987 over the year, to 175,093.
  • The number of employed was up 298 over the month and down 1,353 over the year, to 168,240.
  • Initial claims were down 31 over the month and up 110 over the year, to 646.

Southwest Georgia

  • The unemployment rate remained unchanged posting at 4.0% over the month, the rate was 3.7% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 875 over the month and down 646 over the year, to 148,205.
  • The number of employed was up 976 over the month and down 995 over the year, to 142,350.
  • Initial claims were down 17 over the month and up 64 over the year, to 506.

Three Rivers

  • The unemployment rate remained unchanged posting at 3.6% over the month, the rate was 3.2% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 1,420 over the month and up 167 over the year, to 269,761.
  • The number of employed was up 1,443 over the month and down 812 over the year, to 260,130.

Initial claims were down 42 over the month and up 137 over the year, to 931.
