As they say, no good deed goes unpunished. Such is the case here, according to an incident report from the sheriff’s office.
On August 6, 2025, an officer responded to a Tyson Road address in reference to a theft. The complainant stated that she had allowed her neighbor, Waylon Hatfield, 19, of Douglas, use her bathroom to shower because Hatfield hasn’t had power at his home. During that time, several items went missing, including $200 in cash and a pair of Airpods. The day before, on August 5, a second pair of Airpods went missing.
The complainant noticed Hatfield had a pair Airpods and she asked him about them. He initially said he didn’t take them, according to the report. But the complainant was able to match the serial number of her Airpods to the ones Hatfield had. He returned them to her. She suspects him of taking the other items but has no proof. She stated that she would like to press charges against Hatfield for taking the Airpods.
Hatfield was charged with theft by taking and booked into the Coffee County Jail. He was later released.
