The South Georgia State College Hawks hit four home runs on their April 20 regular season finale against the Andrew College Tigers but still came up short, losing 11-7 in Cuthbert.
With the seeding for the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association tournament set, the Hawks used the game as an opportunity to get a few players some rest while getting others in the lineup. SGSC used seven pitchers in the game, with nobody throwing over an inning. Starter Luke Smith (1IP, 2H, 2R, 1K) took the loss. He threw just 14 pitches. In fact, the most pitches anyone threw was 25 – and that came from Blake Hughes, the fifth pitcher of the day.
The Hawks scored two in the third, one in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one in the ninth. The Tigers scored two in the first, three in the second, three in the third, two in the sixth, and one in the eighth.
Trae Jones homered twice. Alex Bairan and Braxton Brady also homered. Jones was the only Hawk with multiple hits – he went 2-4 with three RBI and two runs. Danny Vigille-grant doubled, driving in two.
The Hawks play their first game of the GCAA tournament Tuesday at ABAC in Tifton. SGSC and Andrew will face each other again at 3 p.m.
The Hawks finished the season with a 32-24 overall record and a 14-14 conference mark.
