In a major step toward expanding higher education opportunities across South Georgia, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College and Valdosta State University have officially entered into a new articulation agreement designed to create seamless transfer pathways for students pursuing advanced degrees and career growth.
The partnership will allow eligible Wiregrass students to transition directly into select bachelor’s degree programs at Valdosta State University, making higher education more accessible, affordable, and workforce-focused for students throughout the region.
Under the agreement, students completing an Associate of Science in General Business at Wiregrass will be able to transfer into VSU’s Bachelor of Business Administration program. Students earning an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice can continue into VSU’s Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program. In addition, students who complete any Associate of Applied Science degree at Wiregrass will now have a pathway into VSU’s Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership program.
College leaders say the partnership represents a shared commitment to student success, workforce development, and economic growth in South Georgia.
“This agreement opens doors for our students and creates a stronger educational pipeline for the communities we serve,” said DeAnnia Clements. “Students can now begin their educational journey at Wiregrass and continue seamlessly toward a bachelor’s degree at Valdosta State University while staying close to home and connected to local workforce opportunities.”
The articulation agreement is expected to benefit both traditional and adult learners by reducing barriers to transfer and creating clear academic pathways aligned with today’s workforce demands.
Leaders from both institutions emphasized the importance of collaboration between technical colleges and universities in preparing students for leadership roles in business, public service, criminal justice, and industry.
“This partnership demonstrates what is possible when institutions work together to support students and strengthen our region,” said Dr. Jammie Wilbanks. “By creating accessible pathways to advanced education, we are investing directly in the future workforce and economic success of South Georgia.”
The agreement also reflects the growing need for flexible education models that allow students to earn credentials, enter the workforce, and continue advancing academically without losing momentum.
For many South Georgia students, the new partnership means an opportunity to save money, remain local, and pursue long-term career goals with greater confidence and support.
Students interested in learning more about the transfer pathways and eligible programs are encouraged to contact admissions or academic advising at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College or Valdosta State University.
