Political antagonist, convicted conman, and perpetual victim Bobby Worthy says he’s going to file a civil suit against the City of Douglas and a local restaurant for alleged civil rights violations unless the organizations pony up an excess of $1.3 million to settle with him. Law enforcement officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Meadowbrook Lane in Coffee County Thursday morning where the bodies of a man and woman were discovered, the apparent victims of multiple gunshot wounds. The GBI identified the deceased as Meghan Bowen, 33, and James Harden, 39. Both are from Coffee County. GBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Marko Jones stated the sheriff’s office was dispatched to the residence after a family member reported the bodies of the deceased. Civil rights activist Bobby Worthy was sentenced to 12 months probation and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $1,500 today in Ware County State Court after being convicted of theft by deception. Ware County Clerk of Court Melba Fiveash stated Worthy must pay restitution to the victim in the case within 90 days, and he was also charged $500 in fines. Worthy will serve the full length of his probation. House of Representatives Democratic candidate and outspoken civil rights activist Larry Charles Nesmith, Jr. was arrested by Douglas police Monday afternoon following an altercation with another man at a local restaurant. Margarito Perez with the Douglas Police Department was on duty patrolling in the parking lot of Wal-Mart when he was approached by a 52-year-old male. Former President Jimmy Carter, who recently revealed he has cancer, arrived to teach his regular Sunday School lesson at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains Sunday to the welcome of hundreds of admirers.
