A 23-year-old Douglas man remains in jail as a result of an illegal drug investigation between the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and the South Georgia State College police department. An incident report from the sheriff’s office states that on July 25, 2025, an officer with the SGSC police force contacted the sheriff’s office regarding a subject allegedly selling contraband via SnapChat, primarily THC edibles. Maggie Brown threw a one-hit complete game shutout against the Tift County Lady Blue Devils Tuesday afternoon at Faircloth Field in Douglas. The Lady Trojans won 1-0. Tift County held Coffee to just one hit as well. However, the Lady Trojans’ lone hit of the game was responsible for the only run of the game. A Douglas police officer arrested one individual as a result of a welfare check investigation on Peachtree Street. The incident took place on July 28, 2025, just before 5 p.m. According to the incident report, the call came in after a neighbor heard glass breaking then saw a female subject come from behind the home. An employee at a local business was arrested and charged with theft by deception after she allegedly refunded items inside the store and kept the cash for herself. According to an incident report from the Douglas Police Department, the incidents took place in July at Roses. An employee of the store, Jakayla Johnson, 21, of Nicholls, allegedly performed the alleged thefts on four different dates in July: July 13, July 16, July 21, and July 30. Douglas police arrested a 30-year-old who allegedly ran from an officer who was questioning him at the North Madison Avenue Park after hours. The incident report from the police department states that an officer saw two people in the park just after 11 p.m. on August 1, 2025. The report states that the officer could smell marijuana on Quinterrious Allen, 30, of Douglas. Over the course of his career, he has served under five different sheriff’s, multiple jail supervisors, and even at two different facilities. A week into the season, the Lady Trojans are 1-1 with a win over Bacon County (9-2) in the preseason scrimmage and Ware County (11-3) in the season opener. Thursday morning, deputies responded to a Miller Road address in response to a gunshot wound. The victim, a female, had been transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center via private vehicle with life-threatening injuries. Officers blocked a portion of Miller Road in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. Sheriff Fred Cole asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to conduct the investigation. The charges against three individuals who had been indicted on misdemeanor charges in connection with the death of Vann Brown on January 1, 2020, at a party in Ambrose have been dropped. According to an order filed on August 5, 2025, the charges against Daniel Anderson, Morgan Lewis, and Corey Waylon Johnson have been dropped due to prosecutorial discretion. Deputies from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45-year-old David Metts on July 14, 2025, after he was allegedly involved in a domestic dispute during which he fired a .22 caliber handgun into his ceiling. The call came in around 9 a.m., according to the incident report. Officers responded to the scene and found Metts, who was intoxicated and not in a good mood, according to the report.
