An alcohol fueled fishing trip landed a 42-year-old in jail after he allegedly fled a Coffee County deputy while riding home on an ATV. According to a sheriff’s office incident report, on June 10, 2025, at around 8 p.m., a deputy spotted a man, identified as James Johnson, 42, of Douglas, riding an ATV on New Forest Highway. During the stop, Johnson stated that he didn’t have any identification and he also might have a warrant, the report says. A Douglas man who was arrested in May after he allegedly fired multiple shots during a domestic dispute has been arrested again. The incident began when the suspect, Christopher Brent Johnson, 44, of Douglas, allegedly turned right and headed north on Peterson Avenue, which is a southbound one-way. The denial was filed Monday afternoon. A Douglas woman who had active warrants was arrested after officers arrived at an East Jackson Street address to investigate a domestic dispute. Just before 7 p.m. on June 9, 2025, Douglas police officers responded to the domestic call. According to a report from the police department, when they arrived, Janice Denise Williams, 55, of Douglas, stated that her husband had hit her during an argument. Embattled Pearson mayor Robert Johnson no longer has to have a police escort while he is on city property. In April, Johnson’s attorneys filed a motion seeking a modification to the condition of his bond requiring a Pearson police officer to be present him while he is on a city property. Monday afternoon, Coffee County firefighters responded to a structure fire at lot 14 of a mobile home in a mobile home park off Namon Road. There were people inside the home at the time of the fire but everyone escaped unharmed.
