An alcohol fueled fishing trip landed a 42-year-old in jail after he allegedly fled a Coffee County deputy while riding home on an ATV. According to a sheriff’s office incident report, on June 10, 2025, at around 8 p.m., a deputy spotted a man, identified as James Johnson, 42, of Douglas, riding an ATV on New Forest Highway. During the stop, Johnson stated that he didn’t have any identification and he also might have a warrant, the report says. A Douglas man who was arrested in May after he allegedly fired multiple shots during a domestic dispute has been arrested again. The incident began when the suspect, Christopher Brent Johnson, 44, of Douglas, allegedly turned right and headed north on Peterson Avenue, which is a southbound one-way. Jon Worrell, 57, who is being held in the Coffee County Jail on murder charges in connection with the 2006 shooting death of his wife, Doris Worrell, has been denied bond. The denial was filed Monday afternoon.   Worrell was arrested on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in Maryville, Missouri, and charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, and conspiracy to commit murder. A Douglas woman who had active warrants was arrested after officers arrived at an East Jackson Street address to investigate a domestic dispute. Just before 7 p.m. on June 9, 2025, Douglas police officers responded to the domestic call. According to a report from the police department, when they arrived, Janice Denise Williams, 55, of Douglas, stated that her husband had hit her during an argument. Embattled Pearson mayor Robert Johnson no longer has to have a police escort while he is on city property. In April, Johnson’s attorneys filed a motion seeking a modification to the condition of his bond requiring a Pearson police officer to be present him while he is on a city property. This week, a judge granted the motion. On February 4, 2025, Mayor Johnson was arrested by agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on 25 felony counts. Diana Jacobs is headed back to prison. Jacobs, who in 2016 was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 10 years on probation in connection with the 2014 death of Alexander Hunter, 67, at Rosewood Manor assisted living facility in Nicholls, had been released in 2023 and was serving the remainder of her sentence on probation. Since her release, she was cited for DUI and, earlier this year, she was arrested on first degree forgery charges after allegedly paying for merchandise at a local Dollar General with counterfeit money. Keshia Sean Waites, formerly a state representative and Atlanta City Council member, defeated Peter Hubbard, an energy advocate, 57,837 to 41,865. Monday afternoon, Coffee County firefighters responded to a structure fire at lot 14 of a mobile home in a mobile home park off Namon Road. There were people inside the home at the time of the fire but everyone escaped unharmed. If you’re standing in front of the home and looking at the front door, the fire began in the left side in one of the bedrooms. The citizens of Coffee County have suffered a tremendous loss. Last night, District 1 county commissioner Oscar Paulk unexpectedly passed away. Commissioner Paulk was elected to the commission in 2014 and began his term of service on January 1, 2015. “Commissioner Paulk was an exemplary public servant who served the citizens of District 1 and Coffee County admirably and selflessly. His loss leaves an enormous void on the commission that will not be easy to fill. A 31-year-old was arrested and jailed after he allegedly fired multiple shots at the mother of his child from the Dollar General on North Madison Avenue. An incident report from the Douglas Police Department states that on June 7, 2025, just before 11 p.m., Terrence Warren Jr., 31, walked from Georgian Woods Apartments to the Dollar General across from Circle K.
